Sofia Llanes is an NYC-based painter and printmaker. Llanes' work is in conversation with themes of ageing, guilt, fear, love, and a bittersweetness that has often tinged her life. Though she primarily works in gouache and acrylic paint, she incorporates non-traditional materials in her practice, experimenting with expanding foam, glass, clay, and jewels. Her use of various materials serves as a conduit to her understanding of the boundaries between restraint and liberty, permanence and transience.
